Compliance & security

Compliance is not a layer on top: it is the structure of the product

Naya ID is built so that every verification is defensible. Not because a score declares it acceptable, but because the documents, the checks, the timestamps and the rule applied remain available and consistent. This page describes the framework we operate in, what an evidence file contains and how data is protected.

Three commitments

Regulatory, security, sovereignty

These three axes shape our technical choices. They are contractual and verifiable, not declarative.

Regulatory
The setup follows the KYC and AML requirements applicable across the UEMOA zone and the ECOWAS area: identification before the relationship starts, documented screening, retention of documents and a complete audit trail, with an exportable file for every decision.
Security
Encryption in transit and at rest, per-client data isolation, named and fully logged access, regular permission reviews and penetration testing carried out by an independent third party.
Sovereignty
Your customers’ data is hosted in the cloud, or inside your own infrastructure when your regulator requires it. Retention periods and purge rules are configurable country by country.
Applicable framework

The authorities and texts our clients work with

We do not replace your compliance function: we produce the material it needs to demonstrate that its obligations are met. These are the frameworks our clients most often place us in.

BCEAO and national regulators

Entering a relationship and knowing the customer

Credit institutions, e-money issuers and decentralised financial systems must identify their customer and verify their identity against a document before opening. Naya ID provides the verification, the biometric match and the dated file that documents the operation.

UEMOA / ECOWAS AML frameworks

Anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing

Screening of sanctions, politically exposed persons and adverse media runs when the relationship starts, then periodically. Every match examined, whether retained or dismissed, remains available with its reason and timestamp.

Data protection authorities

Lawfulness of processing and individual rights

The consent of the person being verified is captured explicitly and retained with the file. Purposes are limited to identity verification and compliance; retention periods are configured according to the applicable national law.

Sector regulators

Telecommunications, gaming, public services

Where the obligation concerns a registry (SIM subscribers, service beneficiaries), the consolidated registry is exportable, with per-record detail, so an authority’s request can be answered without manual reconstruction.

Evidence file

What a verification still contains, months later

An audit never looks at averages: it looks at one specific file, opened on one specific day. Every verification therefore retains all the elements that led to the decision, exportable as a PDF or through the API.

Reference and timestamps
Unique reference, date and time of each step, time zone retained
Documents collected
Document images, captured portrait, additional supporting documents
Document checks
Detailed result per check: integrity, MRZ, field consistency
Biometric match
Score obtained, threshold applied, liveness result
AML screening
Lists queried, matches examined, reason for dismissal or retention
Rule applied
Version of the decision policy in force at processing time
Decision and actors
Outcome, named agent in case of manual review, reason recorded
Consent
Proof of the consent captured, the wording shown and the date

The file is produced on demand without reconstruction: it is assembled as the verification runs, not after the fact.

Platform security

The measures in place, in the infrastructure and in the team

The security of an identity setup is judged as much on the infrastructure as on the daily practices of the teams that operate it.

Encryption
AES 256 at rest and TLS in transit. Document images and portraits are stored separately from structured identity data.
Named access
No shared accounts. Strong authentication for internal teams, role-based permissions and periodic reviews, with immediate revocation when someone leaves.
Logging
Every consultation of a customer file is logged: who, when, which document. Logs are retained and available to your internal control.
Isolation
Data is isolated per client. No client’s data set is used to train models serving another without written agreement.
Continuity
Encrypted backups, tested restoration, a documented continuity plan and availability commitments written into the service agreement.
Incident handling
A documented escalation procedure, notification of your point of contact within agreed timeframes and a written incident report after resolution.
Data residency and lifecycle

Where data lives, for how long, and what remains of it

These questions come early in our conversations with legal departments. Here are the principles; the contract makes them specific project by project.

Cloud hosting
Processing and storage take place in Africa. No transfer outside the continent is required for the service to run; were one ever contemplated, it would require prior written agreement.
Deployment inside your infrastructure
For organisations under strict residency requirements, the platform is installed in your environment. Data never leaves your perimeter and you retain administration of it.
Configurable retention
Duration is set per country and per purpose, according to your retention obligation. At expiry, purging is automatic and logged.
Sub-processors and transparency
The list of sub-processors involved in the service is provided and kept up to date. Any change is notified to you before it takes effect.
Individual rights
Access, rectification and erasure requests are handled by your teams, with the necessary tooling in the console. We act in support, within the framework your policy defines.
Exit and reversibility
At the end of the contract your data is returned in a usable format, then deleted from our environments on a written and verifiable schedule.
Frequently asked

What legal and risk departments ask us

Does Naya ID decide whether to accept a customer?

No. The platform runs the checks, produces the elements and applies the rules you have defined. The decision remains yours: it binds you, and the file assembled serves to justify it.

Where is our customers’ data processed?

In a secure cloud, in the environment agreed with you during scoping, or inside your own infrastructure for an on-premise deployment. The processing location is written into the contract, not merely announced.

What happens when our regulator audits us?

You export the files concerned from the console or through the API: documents, checks, scores, the rule applied and manual decisions. Our compliance team can support your exchanges if you wish.

Do you use our data to train your models?

Not without written agreement and a defined scope. By default, a client’s data is used exclusively to process that client’s own verifications.

What external audit evidence can you provide?

Under a confidentiality agreement we share the summary report of our penetration tests, our security policy, the list of sub-processors and a description of our incident-handling procedures.
